What's for dinner depends on what comes in the door and what ideas pop into Bandy's front. She has been the kitchen manager at Good Samaritan for most of the last 26 years.
From the cookhouse of St. Sebastian Parish's Byrider Hall, Bandy orchestrates and cooks the hot meals that center volunteers produce to the community three days each week.
Every weekday morning, volunteers command out to Akron, Ohio, grocery stores - Acme, Freshway Retail, Giant Eagle, IGA and West Point Market - collecting bread, sweets, today's fruits and vegetables to bring back to a waiting Bandy.
On unnamed days, volunteers also visit Chipotle, Bob Evans, Longhorn Steakhouse, Olive Garden and Red Lobster restaurants, where they may be allowed anything from fresh meat, cooked meat, soup or pans of other instant foods. Bakeries send in cakes and other goodies, and the center also orders eats from the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank.
